Toplet is made to stay out of your business. There is no account, no analytics, no tracking and no crash reporting. Almost everything it does happens on your PC and stays there. This page lists every exception.

What stays on your PC

What Toplet sends, and why

Toplet connects to two addresses, both ours, run on Cloudflare:

WhenWhat is sentWhy
You activate a licence keyThe key, a random install ID made by Toplet, and your PC's nameTo check the key with Creem and register this PC (up to 3 per key). The PC name and the first 8 characters of the install ID label the PC in the list of activations, so you can tell your PCs apart.
Now and then after that, and when you deactivateThe key and the activation's IDTo confirm the key is still valid (for example, not refunded), or to free the PC's slot
Checking for updates (the direct download only)Toplet's version and a number from 0 to 99To offer updates gradually. The number is worked out from the install ID, which itself is never sent.
Downloading an updateA normal file downloadFrom downloads.windowsnotch.com

The licence server is api.windowsnotch.com. It passes your key to Creem and keeps nothing itself: no database. Its logs record Creem's answer (for example "active, 2 of 3 PCs"), never your key. Like any website, Cloudflare sees the IP address a request comes from; we use it only to limit how often one address can ask.

The Microsoft Store version doesn't check for updates itself: the Store does that.

Buying

Purchases are handled by Creem, our merchant of record. Creem collects your name, email and payment details, takes care of tax, and emails your licence key. We see your email and order in Creem's dashboard, so we can help if you write to us. Creem's privacy policy covers what they do with your details.

Changes

If Toplet ever starts sending something new, this page changes first, with a new date at the top.
